ACCIDENT UNFOLDS MYSTERY
by B Watts
It was near sunset when the young Prince Gallow of the northern family made his way back through the forest hunting grounds that they patrol every evening in search of a feast. The light glimmered off of every leaf giving the red glow of the horizon an even brighter outline. His guards following right behind him at all time, the prince was eager to test their endurance just for a bit of alone time. Who would want to be kept an eye on for all hours of light? Surely not the prince of the northern family, with a dark blonde haircut in the shape of a well trimmed bush and hunting records that could gag an arena fighter. As they headed down the winding trail through the thin brush, a boar dashed out of the undergrowth and headed towards the river. The prince hopped off his horse and flagged his guards to stay and watch them, as he grabbed his crossbow and headed towards the river-side. He crouched forty yards from the landing the boar went to, to drink from the river, and aimed for the neck. He hears something running up behind him, quite fast, breaking every twig they stepped on. As he turned around to take aim, a gust of wind forced itself towards him and he landed on the ground, head half-way in the water, so he forced himself up to gasp for air. He looked over at a figure in a bright red robe, laced with a fine gold silk with symbols stitched in the cuffs. The figure spoke sternly, “At the end of the river lies a town called Cinderburg, named after the finest blacksmith the kingdom ever knew,” he started wheezing for a moment; “Legend has it he left a weapon blessed with magic, and people are after it.” The prince looked at him with a blank face and said, “Excuse me? Who do you think you are to push me down here and start talking stories?” He looked down to brush off his leather tunic but when he looked up, the figure and the boar were long gone, so he headed back up to the horses to make his way back to the family manor. They arrived at the outskirts of the city; where two stone pillars, built out of a fine ashy gray stone, were standing engraved to say: Here lies A family legacy. Behind the pillars is a stunning outlook with a manor on top of a hill; The Xen’ana Family Estate. A two floor, pine log frame, beautifully etched oak walls made to look like a net with an off-set overlap. They left the horses in an enclosure right by the gate to the manor. The prince walked up the dirt path watching the wind blow the branches on the birch trees lining the path up the door, while the birds sang the evening song to slumber. When he got to the door he noticed it was half open, and even kicked in. He was shocked and ran inside to see what had happened, but as the light from the sunset peered through it revealed two bodies laying on the ground in a pool of blood; the young prince panicked in retaliation and ran away, tears pouring down his face.
